GODSMACK To Make Acoustic Appearance Following BRUINS Vs PANTHERS Game
January 31, 2004GODSMACK will make a special acoustic appearance immediately following the Boston Bruins vs. Florida Panthers game on February 23 at the FleetCenter as an exclusive, first-taste for Bruins fans of their upcoming album, "The Other Side".
"We're dropping the album on March 16," GODSMACK frontman Sully Erna told BostonBruins.com. "This is just something that we are throwing out there. It will be interesting to see how our fans react to the other side of GODSMACK. It's a complete departure from what we usually sound like. We are a heavy rock band and this album is a little bit different. It's a nice buffer between the third and fourth albums for us."
According to Erna, the whole band is excited about the opportunity to play for Bruins fans.
"We always look forward to playing shows in New England," said Erna. "It's our home, with us being Boston natives, and it's always fun to play in front of our home crowd. Plus, it's an added bonus to be able to work with the Bruins — who along with the Patriots are one of our two favorite teams."
The band hope to use the experience not only to reach out to those who count themselves as both Bruins and GODSMACK fans, but also as a tool to reach out to people who may not have been exposed to the band.
"Yeah, I would hope there is a nice overlap [between Bruins and GODSMACK fans]," said Erna. "I would hope that any New England team in general would have some crossover there, with us being born and raised in New England and the band being from Boston.
"I think there are plenty of GODSMACK fans among Bruins fans. What's great, though, is that we get to introduce ourselves to some people who may not be aware of us. The Bruins attract people of all ages."
The band just returned from a short European tour with METALLICA and the two bands will embark on a U.S. tour beginning on March 2 in Phoenix, Arizona.
"It's amazing," said Erna. "It's the best thing we could ever do, touring with METALLICA. It's a beautiful marriage, because the music is so compatible. We're really looking forward to taking the tour to the States. We just got back from a three-week tour with them in Europe and the crowds were very receptive. METALLICA treated us well."
